Moroccan frigate Floréal- Class “Mohammed V- 611” debuted on high-seas patrol last week after receiving an important upgrade of eight anti-ship missile cells, replacing its previous two cells that had held French Exocet missiles, according to Arabic Defense, an online news outlet focusing on Arab military affairs.
The Blue Spear is a powerful anti-ship and land-attack missile able to operate in a variety of meteorological and environmental circumstances.
It was developed by Proteus Advanced Systems as part of a collaboration between Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering).
The Blue Spear missile was designed based on the new IAI Gabriel V anti-ship missile. It has a more modern guidance and control system, as well as an active data link that allows missile updates while in air.
The missile has a range of 290 kilometers and a non-sensitive warhead weighing 150 kg. It is vying under the name “Sea Serpent” in the United Kingdom to replace anti-ship Harpoon rockets.
