The recently-released Mercer Report ranked the Moroccan capital Rabat as the best city to live in in Morocco, the fifth in the Arab world, the 127th worldwide, and the sixth in Africa as per “the quality of living” ranking.
The report considers various factors such as political stability, healthcare, education, infrastructure and socio-cultural environment.
Rabat came in top five in the Arab world following Dubai (79th), Abu Dhabi (84th), Doha (117th), and Muscat (118th).
On the African continent, the Moroccan city was surpassed by Port Louis in Mauritius (ranked 88th globally), and the South African cities of Cape Town (102nd), Johannesburg (105th) and Durban (110th).
As for Casablanca, it was ranked 163 globally, eighth in the Arab world, and seventh in Africa.
The Austrian city of Vienna topped the global ranking, followed by Zurich (Switzerland) and Auckland (New Zealand), which came in second and third places respectively.
The Quality of Living data from Mercer examines the realities of daily life for expatriate personnel and their families in assignment areas all over the world.
