Moroccan police and customs services at El Guerguerat crossing (south) foiled a trafficking operation of 569 kg of cannabis resin (locally known as chira) concealed aboard a Morocco-registered truck for international cargo on Friday, a security source reported.
Trained police sniffer dogs discovered the drug wrapped and stashed inside the vehicle meant for a foodstuffs cargo.
The driver, a 53yo Moroccan, was arrested and is being investigated by the public prosecutor’s office to ascertain the regional and global ramifications of such illegal activity.
This operation is part of the intensive efforts made by the various security services at the El Guerguerat border post to combat international drug trafficking and transnational crime.
