Agadir National Police (DGSN), in coordination with a maritime brigade of the Royal Gendarmerie, arrested an individual on Thursday who is alleged to have physically attacked three people, including two British tourists, using a bladed weapon.
The 33-year-old suspect, whose name has not yet been released but who is said to have a criminal record, allegedly attacked a British couple and a Moroccan-Belgian woman while they were at the beach in Agadir, causing them injuries.
A security source said the suspect attempted to flee arrest by swimming out to sea.
The victims received initial medical care at hospital. Two who suffered only superficial injuries were able to leave the hospital, while the third victim remained to receive further treatment.
The suspect, who had been previously convicted and sentenced to imprisonment in 2020 for drug and psychotropic substance trafficking, was remanded into custody pending further investigation by the public prosecutor’s office.
