Moroccan inventor Rachid Yazami received the $3 million VinFuture 2023 Grand Prix at the Hô Guom Theater in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Wednesday for his green energy inventions.
He was awarded along with Australian inventor Martin Andrew Green, American inventor Stanley Whittingham, and Japanese inventor Akira Yoshino, in recognition of their groundbreaking inventions in the creation of a sustainable platform for green energy production with solar cells and energy storage using lithium-ion batteries.
The combination of these two technological advances has paved the way for the democratization of green energy in everyday life. “Thanks to the conversion of solar energy into electricity by PERC solar cells and the storage of lithium-ion batteries, we now have sustainable solutions to meet energy needs,” according to the event’s organizers.
Today, lithium-ion batteries power a whopping 15 billion mobile devices and 26 million electric vehicles worldwide.
