Morocco’s National Police (DGSN) has issued an ambitious 2024 plan following the release of its annual achievements report that includes a variety of initiatives to improve the country’s law enforcement capabilities and skills and enhance the police force’s global engagement.
Morocco’s inauguration of an International Police Training Center in Ifrane, designed not only to serve Moroccan security professionals but to reach all across Africa, is at the forefront of the vision. The center will serve as a regional and international focus for coordinated efforts to combat terrorism and organized crime. The facility is intended to enhance Morocco’s presence and influence in Africa and internationally by implementing the royal vision of South-South cooperation, strengthening coordination and security training mechanisms.
The DGSN plans to open language teaching centers within police training institutions to improve the communication skills of its personnel. It also intends to develop training programs in the fields of sports security and event safety management, in line with broader efforts to prepare law enforcement for Morocco’s hosting of significant global sporting events in 2025 and 2030.
The opening of security training schools in Casablanca and Marrakech this coming year is expected to supplement the current security training program operated by the Royal Police Institute in Kenitra and training schools in Tangier, Oujda, Fes, Bouknadel, Fouarat, and Laayoune.
A national information system for managing criminal cases will be adopted nationwide in 2024, with judicial police functions continuing to be digitized. In regional leaderships, mobile teams will issue electronic national identity cards, bringing identification services into remote regions.
The DGSN seeks to put up additional security facilities, including a new police headquarter in Bni Bouayach, a regional security headquarter in Al Hoceima, and a headquarter to monitor the Mohammed V Mausoleum in Rabat. Establishment of a third security zone headquarters in Rabat is also on the to-do list.
The construction of cutting-edge police precincts and regional laboratories specializing in digital forensics is also on the agenda for facility expansions. The new headquarters of a novel medical center in Hay Riad, Rabat, is nearing completion to ensure the health and well-being of security personnel and their families.
Social initiatives are an important component of the Directorate’s plans, with arrangements in progress to build recreational facilities in Martil and Moulay Bousselham. These initiatives are intended to improve the quality of life for the families of national security employees.
The blueprint for 2024 wraps up with the fifth edition of National Security Open Days in Agadir, corresponding with the 68th anniversary of the establishment of the National Police. The event, which is open to the public, is part of the DGSN’s countrywide citizen communications strategy.
