Around one million households, or the equivalent of 3.5 million Moroccans who meet the qualifying criteria for the Unified Social Register, will receive the first tranche of direct social assistance on December 28, with a minimum amount of 500 MAD per household, according to Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, who spoke in Rabat on Monday.
“The files of the families that submitted their applications before December 10th have been processed,” Akhannouch noted in his opening remarks to the Government Council meeting.
The remaining families that applied after the December 10 deadline will receive their December and January payouts at the end of next month.
Families who meet the criteria can still apply to receive direct social help in the future.
Since its inception at the beginning of December, the government has received over 1.9 million applications through its www.asd.ma website, with the number continuing to climb daily.
The year 2023 marks a watershed moment in the process of implementing “Social State” projects and allocating financial resources to ensure their long-term viability, whether in terms of the generalization of mandatory health insurance, direct social aid for poor families, or aid for the acquisition of primary housing.
Akhannouch noted that the government had succeeded in transforming the challenges posed by Morocco’s September 8 earthquake into possibilities via supervising restoration and development efforts in the affected provinces under the High Royal directives.
