Farewell to costly and laborious administrative passport procedures as Morocco’s Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, recently revealed in an address to Parliament completion of a groundbreaking project to digitize Morocco’s passport application procedure.
Citizens now have the option of using their electronic national identity card or their biometric passport to apply online from the comfort of their keyboards for a new or renewed passport as a result of this novel initiative.
The digitization of this process marks a substantial departure from time-consuming, lengthy application processes that required many in-person visits to government agencies. The move is part of a larger national drive to streamline administrative procedures, in accordance with the royal vision.
The project is the fruit of a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the General Treasury of the Kingdom to implement an online process for obtaining a biometric passport.
As a result of improved administrative processes and reduced seasonal demand spikes, the Ministry of Interior issued 1,139,206 biometric passports this year, averaging 5,348 per day, according to Laftit.
The Moroccan government has set up an encrypted cloud server to host electronic platforms, guaranteeing the security and confidentiality of user data. This strategic project, supported by a progressive and flexible approach, is a vital part of the government strategy to streamline administrative processes in all areas and improve service delivery to Moroccan citizens.
