American destroyer USS LABOON (DDG 58) successfully shot down four unmanned aerial drones originating from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, on Saturday, according to an announcement by the U.S Central Command (CENTCOM) via X (formerly known as Twitter).
The incident occurred between 3 and 8 p.m. (GMT+3) when the USS LABOON was patrolling the Southern Red Sea as part of Operation PROSPERITY GUARDIAN (OPG). The release confirmed that no injuries or damage were reported.
Following this incident, CENTCOM received reports from a pair of vessels which were under fire in the Southern Red Sea.
A Houthi one-way attack drone narrowly missed the M/V BLAAMANEN, a Norwegian-flagged chemical/oil tanker; and a similar drone hit the M/V SAIBABA, a Gabonese-owned, Indian-flagged crude oil vessel, with no injuries or damage.
These are the 14th and 15th Houthi attacks on commercial vessels since October 17, said the same source.
