The Embassy of the Republic of Mali in Algiers announced that Mahamane Amadou MAIGA, Ambassador of Mali to Algeria, is recalled for immediate consultation, according to a press release issued on Friday.
The statement highlighted the application of the principle of reciprocity as Algeria has also recalled its ambassador in Bamako. The growing diplomatic tension between the two neighbors has been going on for a long time due to regional and security issues.
On Wednesday, Mali Foreign Affairs Minister had urged Algeria to prioritize dialogue with the legitimate Malian authorities for state-to-state exchanges.
He had summoned the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to express strong opposition to the Algerian authorities’ recent unfriendly acts, purportedly related to the peace process in Mali, which included high-level meetings in Algeria without Malian involvement.
These meetings involved individuals known for their opposition to the Malian Government and certain signatory movements of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali.
Mali had requested Algeria to lead international mediation in the peace process, highlighting the need for peace and national unity for sustainable development, according to the Malian official.
The Embassy concluded by expressing gratitude for the kind collaboration with the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad.
