Spanish Police services, in collaboration with Morocco’s territory surveillance services (DGST), announced on Saturday the dismantling of a network suspected of planning two terrorist attacks and financing ISIS activities.
The security operation led to the arrest of five individuals in Spain: two in the regions of Valencia and the others in Caceres, Alicante, and Gipuzkoa, said the Spanish police in a statement.
The suspects were allegedly collecting funds from crimes committed in Europe to finance their terrorist plots. They were also wiring significant amounts of money and cryptocurrencies internationally as around 200,000 euros in cryptocurrencies were seized during the search operation.
Some network members even attempted to indoctrinate and recruit new individuals who might be inclined towards the jihadist ideology and need only support to carry out terrorist attacks.
Investigations that spanned nearly two years revealed that this network had a hand in preparing at least two terrorist plots which were subsequently thwarted by security services.
