The Moroccan women’s national team fell two places to the 60th spot, tallying 1,411.58 points in the most recent International Football Federation (FIFA) rankings revealed on Friday.
The Atlas Lionesses are in the Third Position in Africa, following Nigeria and South Africa.
Worldwide, Spain tops the ranking with 2,066.05 points, followed by the U.S. with 2,045.12 points, then France (2,021.69 points), England (2,014.19 points), and Sweden in fifth place with 1,998.09 points.
The Moroccan women’s national football team had actually moved up 14 spots on the FIFA Women’s Ranking–from 72nd to 58th–between the July and August ratings, thanks to their qualification for the Round of 16 in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
In other developments, AS FAR winger Fatima Tagnaout made history as the first Moroccan recipient of the 2023 CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year, surpassing competitors Refilwe Tholakele of Botswana and South Africa’s Lebohang Ramalepe.
Moroccan defender Nesryne El Chad also achieved recognition by garnering the inaugural CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award, outshining nominees Comfort Yeboah of Ghana and Nigeria’s Deborah Abiodun, in the CAF Awards.
Additionally, Khadija Er-Rmichi of AS FAR contended for the same title in the women’s competition as goalkeeper of the year.
Morocco’s AS FAR (Women) and Sporting Casablanca (Women) figured significantly in the Club of the Year category, confirming the country’s dominance in African football.
