Noussair Mazraoui’s calf injury on Tuesday on the field of play at Manchester United–during the sixth and final matchday of the group stage of the Champions League (0-1)–left concerns about the playing ability of the Bayern Munich fullback, specifically with respect to his participation in the African Cup of Nations (CAN), which kicks off on January 13, 2024.
According to his club, the Moroccan is suffering from a muscle bundle tear in his left thigh.
German news outlets said that Mezraoui’s absence is initially estimated at six weeks, but his unavailability could be reduced to only four.
Other local media outlets said that the fullback has not yet ruled out his participation in the CAN. Although the chances are slim, he hopes to be available in time.
Mazraoui will miss the next two league games against Stuttgart on Sunday and against Wolfsburg on Wednesday.
