Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy clearly reaffirmed his support for the Moroccan Sahara during an interview with Spanish Journalist Susan Nagriso on Antena 3 Channel on Tuesday.
The journalist hosted the former French official on the news channel’s Espejo Publico segment and questioned him about his position vis-a-vis the Spanish favorable move toward the Sahara issue.
He stated explicitly that he is in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity because the region has enough volatility, and that there is no need for a “Sahrawi Republic” there.
Sarkozy added that he completely supports the Spanish position over the Sahara issue.
He applauded King Mohammed VI’s strategy in fighting religious extremism in the Kingdom–an issue that the many North / West African countries are not able to control–and that this is reason enough to say that the Sahara is, and should be Moroccan.
