A Ryanair flight from Dublin to Lanzarote, a Spanish island off Morocco’s southern coast, had to be diverted to Morocco when a disruptive passenger caused a mid-air disturbance on Wednesday morning, reported foreign media. The crew, who called ahead for police assistance, diverted the flight to Agadir’s Al Massira airport.
Moroccan police rapidly intervened upon the plane’s arrival in Agadir, meeting the plane on the runway and taking the unruly passenger off the plane to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew on board.
Ryanair representatives confirmed the incident, noting that the crew had preemptively solicited police assistance.
After a brief delay, the flight to Lanzarote resumed its route. Passengers were reassured by the quick response and reached their destination without any further issue.
The diversion, however, caused slight delays for subsequent flight departures from Lanzarote to Dublin, affecting passengers who were scheduled to leave. According to Ryanair, the incident is now being investigated by local Moroccan authorities.
The identity of the disruptive passenger, who remains in the custody of Moroccan police, has not been disclosed.
