Emirati companies Metito Utilities and Tahliya Group penned an agreement to collaborate in the development of two multi-user irrigation ventures–with both utilizing desalinated water from Morocco–at Metito’s offices in the National Industries Park in Dubai, coinciding with the 28th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP28).
The projects aim to develop alternative energy-powered desalination plants for the purpose of irrigation in Morocco.
The agreement addresses major concerns in Morocco such as water shortage, food security, and sustainable development.
Tahliya Group Chairman and CEO Zouheir Bensaid indicated that the two companies share the common objective of improving their target community and are poised for success in operating the project, as they were both rigorously vetted for prerequisite qualifications specific to this venture.
CEO of Metito Utilities, Rami Ghandour, added that his company will be leveraging its expertise in the field of high-value engineering, and that it boasts a proven track record in developing large-scale desalination plants, thereby complementing Tahliya Group’s know-how in infrastructure development.
The agreement coincides with Moroccan King Mohammed VI’s visit to the UAE and the signing of a hallmark declaration on December 4 to develop a “solid and innovative partnership” in efforts to develop economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries.
Metito Utilities is a global investor in the development of climate-resilient water infrastructure.
Tahliya Group is a well-known infrastructure firm located in the UAE which specializes in power generation and operates water desalination facilities throughout Africa.
