The Prosecutor General of the Tangier Prosecutor’s Office released a statement Wednesday “clarifying” the recent demise of Mourad Seghir, a former military doctor, whose untimely death in a Tangier hospital emergency room had raised questions and captured the attention of social media.
Following routine police notification of an unidentified person’s death on November 12, the Prosecutor General directed the Judicial Police to conduct an investigation into the manner of his death.
The National Police’s (DGSN) Biometric Diagnostic Service conducted a comprehensive autopsy and medical examination, including DNA testing of the deceased’s saliva allowing for his formal identification.
According to the Prosecutor General, the results of the autopsy indicated that Seghir died of “natural causes,” attributed to congestive heart failure caused by a narrowing of the left coronary artery, accompanied by a gastrointestinal bleeding due to ulcers.
Notwithstanding the chatter about the doctor’s mysterious demise, the Prosecutor General asserted that the autopsy findings revealed no traces of violence or bruising on his body. Statements taken from the attending medical staff members who examined him, confirmed that Seghir arrived in the emergency room already in critical condition with severe breathing problems.
Further investigation indicated that the deceased had previously been brought to the same hospital by civil protection authorities on November 8, after having been found in “terrible condition” on a public street.
At that time, after having received oxygen therapy, the doctor did not reveal his identity to the hospital and apparently left once he felt better.
The Prosecutor General said it is important to understand “all the circumstances” surrounding Seghir’s death, including the testimony of witnesses.
Seghir, born on September 4, 1968, was an influencer on YouTube, well known for his outspoken opinions. An espouser of supposed “dangerous secrets and revelations” regarding public figures, his notoriety, along with his beliefs in conspiracy theories, apparently hindered the public’s general acceptance of his sudden death.
His family received authorization to bury his body on December 1.
