A lone shooter opened fire on the main campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in the United States, on Wednesday, resulting in the death of three individuals and the injury of a fourth before he was shot dead by police, reported Reuters.
Police did not identify the assailant, they described him as a white former college professor in his sixties who had previously taught in the states of Georgia and North Carolina, according to BBC.
The incident began at approximately 11:45 a.m. local time, when reports of gunfire emerged, prompting police to swarm the campus while students and faculty members took refuge in classrooms and dormitories.
The shooting began on the fourth floor of the Lee Business School building. The gunman proceeded to several other floors before being shot by two university police officers outside the building, according to UNLV Police Chief Adam Garcia.
The motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
The shooting marks the 80th school shooting in the US this year.
