Head of Morocco’s Prison Administration (DGAPR) Mohamed Salah Tamek chaired the administration’s annual evaluation of Morocco’s prison system in a meeting with the country’s prison directors held at the Executives Training Center in Tifelt, to the east of Rabat, on Wednesday.
The meeting focused on performance in various areas of the prison system’s management and addressed obstacles that hinder the optimal implementation of reform initiatives, according to a press release issued by DGAPR.
Institution directors and prison officials had the opportunity to raise a number of issues, identify solutions, and establish their action plans for 2024.
During the meeting, Tamek touted the prison system’s achievements during the past year and praised the sense of responsibility and discipline shown by officials and staff in performing their professional duties.
He also commended the significant efforts of those working in the sector toward maintaining the security of prisons, preparing prisoners for rehabilitation, safeguarding the rights of prisoners, and generally overcoming challenges and difficulties.
Tamek also emphasized the need for the system to continue efforts to improve communication, cooperation, and constructive responses to various governmental and non-governmental authorities and departments.
He also recognized the importance of addressing staff-related matters, upholding professionalism and good governance, and committing to rigor and discipline in combating practices contrary to legal and organizational rules to improve prison conditions.
