Moroccan exports to Spain so far in 2023 have totaled 6.75 billion euros, a 2.1% increase compared to the previous year, while the value of imports has now reached 9.14 billion euros–a 3.1% rise–with both figures comprising new historical highs in commercial exchanges between the two Kingdoms, said the Spanish media outlet The Objective on Friday.
These statistics are remarkable, given that Spain’s exports to other nations climbed by just 0.3% during the same time, while purchasing plummeted by 6.7%.
The improved ties between the two nations following Pedro Sánchez’s shift in stance on the Moroccan Sahara have proven instrumental to the increased flow of goods and services in both directions.
Last week, the Spanish Prime Minister engaged in a telephone conversation with his Moroccan counterpart, Aziz Akhannouch. “We agreed on the importance of the friendship between Spain and Morocco. We wish to promote the bilateral program already agreed upon and to explore the new opportunities offered by this renewed relationship,” wrote Pedro Sanchez on social media.
The talks focused on “…strengthening the new phase of the strategic partnership between Morocco and Spain, which is based on good neighborliness, mutual trust and permanent and constructive dialogue,” said Akhannouch.
