The Moroccan Red City, Marrakech, is poised to host the 2023 CAF Awards. The Movenpick Hotel will be the stage for this prestigious event on Monday, December 11, starting at 7 P.M. local time, according to a press release issued by the CAF on Wednesday.
The 2023 CAF Awards promise a celebration of football brilliance, uniting players from across the continent in Marrakech for an unforgettable evening.
The ceremony will honor Africa’s finest performers, in commending outstanding performances at both the club and national tiers. The renowned titles of CAF African Player of the Year in both men’s and women’s categories will be presented at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Category shortlists were announced earlier and ten players are still in the running for Player of the Year, whereas the other classifications contain five nominees each.
Morocco dominates the nominations with notable players in contention for the coveted titles. In the women’s selections, homegrown talents Anissa Lahmari and Fatima Tagnaout–representing Levante Las Planas and AS FAR respectively–are standout contenders. Ghizlaine Chebbak, another Moroccan standout from AS FAR, adds to the local representation.
Morocco boasts a strong representation in the men’s grouping, as well, with players such as Achraf Hakimi of PSG and Sofyan Amrabat of Manchester United. Yassine Bounou, a wildly popular goalkeeper from Al Hilal, and Youssef En-Nesyri, the Sevilla striker, are also Moroccan nominees.
