Moroccan Information Technopark Company’s (MITC) fifth location in Morocco opened its doors in Essaouira on Friday, expanding the company’s efforts to develop technology ecosystems across Morocco and improve support systems for startups and digital firms.
The inauguration ceremony for the modern Technopark d’Essaouira facility, attended by high-ranking officials including André Azoulay, Royal Advisor and Founder-President of the Essaouira-Mogador Association; Ghita Mezzour, Delegate Minister for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform; Farid Chourak, Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region; Adil El Maliki, Governor of the Essaouira province; Housni El Ghazaoui, President of the Board of Directors of Al Omrane Group, as well as other local officials, highlighted MITC’s new roadmap to promote the Ministry’s strategic aim of making “digital” a critical lever for the Kingdom’s economic performance.
The Ministry and MITC signed an agreement governing the operation and management of the new Technopark d’Essaouira and to initiate special startup support programs.
Built with contemporary architecture incorporating flexible workplaces and training rooms at a cost of almost 20 billion MAD, the latest advanced Technopark has a capacity to accommodate over 70 digital startups and project leaders.
MITC’s Director-General, Lamiae Benmakhlouf, expressed her delight in growing the company’s regional footprint, effectively supporting young tech talents, and promoting the transition of creative concepts into successful firms that contribute to employment creation and value in local regions. She gave a presentation on Technopark’s achievements over the past 20 years and the main features of MITC’s new strategic roadmap for 2022-2027.
The President of Al Omrane applauded Technopark’s role in reinforcing the province’s dynamism, creating new employment opportunities and unlocking the potential of the region’s youth.
With four operational sites in Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, and Agadir, as well as the Souss-Massa Innovation City, MITC has established a robust entrepreneurial and digital community, supporting over 3,000 innovative startups in the last two decades achieving a cumulative annual turnover exceeding one billion MAD and employing over 3,000 qualified professionals.
The latest Technopark initiative provides a customized service for Digital Nomads, capitalizing on the region’s environmental, historical, and cultural attractions. It looks to enhance current solutions with a professional approach tailored exclusively for traveling business owners.
MITC’s regional expansion strategy foresees the opening of three upcoming Technoparks in Fes, Oujda, and Tiznit in 2024-2025, reinforcing its role as an innovation catalyst and economic development engine across the Kingdom.
