Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted in the murder of George Floyd, was stabbed by another inmate in an Arizona prison, reported the BBC on Saturday.
The 47-year-old sustained serious injuries at a federal prison in Tucson around 12:30 local time on Friday, as confirmed by the Bureau of Prisons.
Chauvin, serving multiple sentences for Floyd’s killing in 2020, underwent “life-saving measures,” and he is now in stable condition, according to Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison.
This incident occurred shortly after the Supreme Court rejected Chauvin’s appeal, where he claimed his trial was not fair.
Chauvin received a 22-year sentence for Floyd’s murder, during which he knelt on the victim’s neck for over nine minutes, and an additional 20-year sentence in July 2022 for violating Floyd’s civil rights.
