The Senegalese Football Federation requested FIFA to boot the French national team from the U-17 World Cup held in Indonesia on Wednesday for fielding an ineligible player (Yanis Ali Issoufou Abdoulkader).
The Sports Football Federation said that the player is not authorized to play for his new association in any competition in which he has already participated for his former association, given that he played two official tournaments (CAF and FIFA) in the same category, and FIFA competition (U-17) with two different nationalities (Nigerian and French).
“In addition, Article 24 of the Regulations for the U-17 World Cup “Indonesia 2023” stipulates that all players must be eligible for their representative team in accordance with the FIFA Statutes, the Regulations Governing the Application of the FIFA Statutes and any other applicable FIFA regulations,” read the letter.
“Furthermore, according to the same text, participating member associations must field only eligible players, and in the event of failure to do so, the relevant provisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Code shall apply,” it added.
Burkina Faso, defeated by France in the group stage, had already filed a similar complaint pointing to the case of Yanis Issoufou.
Senegal was eliminated in the round of 16 of the U17 World Cup on penalties against France (0-0, 5-4 on penalties). France will face Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals.
