Morocco topped 15 African countries in the area of Tech Advancement, reported investor news publication Insider Monkey on Saturday.
Scoring 208 points, the ranking took into account several criteria such as the evolution of Morocco’s information and computer technology (ICT) sector, the quantity of scientific articles published on technological innovation, and the state of its manufacturing.
The Kingdom was the first country to implement 3G in Africa and is preparing for its transition to 5G, the report noted.
As U.S. tech giants aim to capitalize on the potential offered by Africa, for the first time Morocco surpassed South Africa, edging it out into second in the tech field, followed by Egypt, Rwanda, and Kenya which came in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Meanwhile, Algeria lagged in 14th, and neither Tunisia nor, surprisingly, Nigeria placed in the ranking.
