Moroccan politician and former tourism minister Lahcen Haddad took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize the former head of the Hamas movement Khaled Meshaal’s viral video urging Morocco to “sever ties with Israel.”
Haddad challenged Meshaal’s moral authority and credibility. “Khaled Meshaal, advocate of luxury and extravagance from his ivory tower in Doha, attempts to give lessons in resistance to Moroccans,” he wrote.
“Are you, Khaled, the mother of Moroccans?”
Referencing Meshaal’s specific focus on Morocco in the video, Haddad suggested that if Meshaal were serious, he would leave behind empty rhetoric and take action. “Why aren’t you in the field facing the Israeli killing machine against isolated Palestinians?”
Expressing weariness with what he dubbed a “five-star fight,” Haddad dismissed individuals profiteering from the Palestinian cause for personal gain.
He criticized Meshaal’s attempt to “school” Moroccans given that they have always been advocates and supporters in all Arab conflicts including in Algeria, Jerusalem, Gaza, the West Bank, Libya, and Yemen, concluding “If you feel no shame, then do as you wish.”
