The Dakhla police services, in close collaboration with Territorial Surveillance Services (DGST), arrested a 23yo extremist male on Thursday for connections with the IS terrorist organization, said the DGST in a press release on Saturday.
The suspect, a native of Al Hajeb, pledged allegiance to the self-proclaimed Emir of IS and was actively involved in plotting and preparing terrorist schemes aimed at seriously undermining the country’s public order and security.
The suspect was held in custody to complete a judicial investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office in charge of terrorism cases, and aimed at identifying domestic and foreign accomplices making up his network.
This security operation shows an upsurge in terrorist threats facing the Kingdom, and the persistent spread of the extremist ideology.
