Morocco’s Earthquake Did Not Affect Highways, Experts

The Moroccan Highways Company (ADM) confirmed on Friday that the country’s highways were not damaged by the recent earthquake due to their quake-proof design and observance of international standards.
The ADM has recently received Japanese experts from Hanshin Expressway Company to evaluate the anti-seismic engineering of the Marrakech-Agadir highway. The leading Japanese urban expressway operator, which has over 50 years of expertize in motorway management and maintenance, assured that the highway infrastructure was solid and was not impacted by the strong quake that hit Morocco in September.
The post-quake evaluation is part of a technology transfer partnership concluded by ADM and the Japanese corporation in 2015, and it falls under the Moroccan company’s emergency plan.
The two partners also discussed the latest anti-seismic technology utilized for road infrastructure, particularly in Japan which experiences very frequent earthquakes due to its geographical location.
