The services of National Police (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST) thwarted a major drug trafficking operation as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug trade and substance abuse, resulting in the interception of a shipment containing 5,400 grams of cocaine and 6,642 narcotic pills.
According to a statement from the DGSN, the primary suspect, arriving from the town of Fnideq (Northern Morocco), intended to deliver the illicit cargo to a second suspect in Tangier.
Subsequent inspection and control procedures led to the confiscation of the cocaine and a large quantity of Rivotril capsules, which when used for their intended purpose are designed to treat epilepsy, seizure disorders, and panic attacks. However, as it is classified as a narcotic, the substance produces mind-altering effects when taken in large quantities.
The ongoing investigations also uncovered substantial amounts of money in the national currency, suspected to be proceeds from the illegal operations as well as mobile phones and a digital balance.
Both suspects have been placed under provisional custody pending further judicial inquiry, as further investigations attempt to reveal additional connections associated with this criminal activity.
