In a joint operation between Tanger-Med port police and Customs services, authorities thwarted an international drug trafficking attempt in the wee hours of Monday morning, which enabled the seizure of 1430 kilograms of cannabis, locally known as Chira.
Traffickers had attempted to hide the substance inside an international freight truck, according to a statement from the National Police (DGSN).
Photographs released by the DGSN depict the unloading operation resulting in the seizure of the prepared drug bundles within the vehicle, which was custom-designed for international trafficking.
The driver of the truck, a Moroccan national, was apprehended during the operation and is currently in custody, pending further investigation intended to reveal any potential domestic and/or international connections associated with this criminal activity.
