Morocco was the only North African country listed in the “Top 20 Countries with the Best Roads in the World,” a report published by reputable financial news and analysis platform “Insider Monkey”.
The report, which sourced data from the Road Quality and Mean Speed Score report from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), described the kingdom as a country that “has one of the best quality roads in the world,” with a mean speed score of 95 kilometers per hour between major cities.
According to the report, the country devotes a significant percentage of its national budget to road maintenance, which is reflected in the significantly improved quality of Moroccan rural roads.
It emphasized the importance of road infrastructure in inclusive growth, referencing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Mean speed scores are calculated to evaluate road quality, accessibility, surface condition, traffic flow, and construction.
The United States took the lead in the road quality ranking, followed by Portugal and Saudi Arabia, with speeds of 107, 106, and 106, respectively.
IMF’s data, obtained from Google Maps, provides a detailed account of the quality of road infrastructure between major cities.
