Over 600 children from three selected schools in the city of Agadir benefited from the services of Operation Smile Morocco on November 4-5.
This campaign lies under the jurisdiction of Princess Lalla Meryem and is in partnership with the regional council of Souss-Massa, the governorate of the Souss-Massa region, the prefecture of Agadir Ida-ou-Tanane, and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
Operation Smile Morocco assisted the population of the Souss-Massa region through the organization of a dental humanitarian mission at the Hassan II Hospital in Agadir.
During this mission, Operation Smile Morocco conducted dental consultations in order to identify the specific dental issues affecting the children and to provide them with appropriate dental care and procedures to preserve their permanent teeth, extract infected teeth, and educate them on the importance of oral hygiene, thereby encouraging them to take care of their teeth on a regular basis. Operation organizers also distributed dental health kits to the individuals.
The team of 40 volunteers from various cities within the Kingdom was composed of dentists, nurses, biomedical engineers, paramedical staff, and administrative personnel. All of these individuals facilitated the program’s success.
Since its inception, Operation Smile Morocco has provided free surgical care to more than 12,700 children, along with thousands of consultations in its three-cleft treatment and surgical follow-up centers, as well as dental, orthodontic, psychological, speech therapy, orthognathic, and ENT care.
The association has also contributed to the training of hundreds of medical volunteers in the fields of cleft surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, and nursing. The greatest achievement of Operation Smile Morocco is perhaps the opening of centers of excellence for cleft care in Casablanca, El Jadida, and Oujda, where each facility helps provide care to patients throughout the year.
Over the years, Operation Smile Morocco has spearheaded a multitude of instrumental education and training programs. Hundreds of medical volunteers are trained each year in new surgical techniques, basic life support (BLS) and pediatric advanced life support (PALS), as well as in cleft surgery, orthognathic surgery, ENT, “NAM/FMO” in dental care, orthodontics, and implantology.
