Morocco and Egypt signed a cooperation agreement and two memorandums of understanding on Sunday in Cairo, relating to road safety, railways, and maritime navigation.
Minister of Transport and Logistics Mohammed Abdeljalil, and his Egyptian counterpart Kamel al-Wazir signed the agreements during the fifth edition of the Intelligent and Green Transport, Infrastructure, and Logistics Exhibition in the Middle East and Africa (TransMEA 2023).
The first agreement, a memorandum of understanding in the field of road safety, aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, promote scientific research, develop their capacities, and exchange information about their common experiences within these realms.
The second agreement concerns the railway transport sector and attempts to define a general framework for bilateral cooperation in this arena.
The pact covers various areas related to the railway system, including network development, mobile equipment, railway engineering, signaling, railway operation, land valuation in and around the stations, freight transport, services and logistics, sector digitization, innovation, research, sustainable development, and system improvement.
The last accord addresses the mutual recognition of crew certificates of competency. It looks to consolidate the cooperative and complementary relations between the two nations within various maritime transport sub-sectors, and the need to take the necessary measures to implement the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping.
Morocco is represented at the TransMEA 2023 exhibition by a high-level delegation composed of senior officials from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics—led by Mohammed Abdeljalil—along with public institutions and companies under its supervision. The conference will continue through November 8.
