Morocco reiterated its concern and its deep indignation regarding the escalation and the heightening of the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip after the Jabalia refugee camp attacks, reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a release on Thursday.
More than three weeks after the outbreak of military clashes, civilians are still being targeted–resulting in thousands of deaths among women and children, as well as tens of thousands of injured, homeless, and missing–as places of worship, hospitals, and refugee camps are still being bombarded, the most recent being the Jabalia camp.
Missiles and shells are increasingly targeting civilian infrastructure arbitrarily, forcing over a million people to flee, with the resulting deprivation of water, power, and gasoline resulting in a disastrous humanitarian crisis.
The Kingdom of Morocco has declared that all of Israel’s escalatory actions are in violation of international humanitarian law and common human values, and warns of a spread of the conflict within Palestinian territories and a dangerous expansion of the perimeter of violence to affect neighboring areas, thus endangering the region’s security and stability.
Morocco expresses sadness and dismay at the international community’s passivity, the Security Council’s failure to accept its obligations, and influential nations’ unwillingness to put an end to this disastrous situation.
Reiterating its support for the Palestinian National Authority and its national institutions, Morocco calls for a de-escalation leading to a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors to facilitate the entry of aid in a rapid, sustainable, and unhindered manner–as well as the release of prisoners and detainees–with the initiative to open a mechanism of discourse for the Palestinian perspective to be heard.
