Morocco and Germany signed a joint declaration of intent on Monday to strengthen their cooperation in a number of areas of common concern, especially national security and international migration.
German Minister of Interior and Territory Nancy Faeser and Morocco’s Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit signed the declaration during a meeting.
“Morocco and the Federal Republic of Germany share several common interests and challenges, which require stronger and deeper cooperation,” said Faeser.
She said Germany would like to establish a bilateral agreement with Morocco to deepen cooperation on migration especially, as both Germany and Morocco serve as both host and transit countries. She added that she is “confident” that cooperation in this area will “yield positive and fruitful results” for both nations.
During a press briefing following talks with Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita on Tuesday, the German minister again highlighted the importance of collaboration between Morocco and Germany to further enhance bilateral cooperation in multiple areas, noting that the two countries share several issues of common interest beyond national security, such as the fight against organized crime, human trafficking, and terrorism, as well as similar challenges.
