Morocco’s athletes on Sunday dominated the 14th edition of International Marathon of Casablanca podiums and brought 13 medals to Morocco, including four gold.
At the Men’s Marathon (42km), Mohammed Talhaoui earned the gold medal after finishing in 2:13:35, followed by his compatriot Mountacer Zaghou (2:17:04) who received the bronze.
Moroccans completely dominated the podium of the Men’s Semi-Marathon (21km). Abdelkarim Benzahra came in first (1:02:52), followed by Brahim Khalyfah (1:02:58), and Fathi Abdenasir (1:03:44).
The Moroccan women made their presence known, as well, taking home three medals from the semi-marathon. Fatima-Zhahra Ouhrisse took the gold medal after running the 21km in 1:15.53, followed by Fatiha Benchatki–who earned the silver for her 1:16:19 mark–with the bronze going to Aziza Alaoui Selsouli (1:16:53).
The top three finishers in the 10km run–which by the way was dominated by Moroccans–were Jamal Hitrane, Hicham Wassmi, and Elayadi Zaroual, in that order. In the women’s division, Wafa Zaroual, Soukaina Bouadoud, and Soumia Sanad took home the gold, silver, and bronze, respectively.
With 10,500 participants from 38 nations, the 14th edition of the Casablanca International Marathon experienced unprecedented participation.
