The Letter of Intent (LOI) to organize the FIFA World Cup 2030 was officially lodged at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, on Monday, a significant step toward hosting the world’s most important football event.
This LOI representing Morocco, Portugal, and Spain’s commitment to staging the tournament was formally delivered to FIFA officials by Tarek Najem, Secretary General of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
The letter had been previously endorsed by the presidents of the FRMF, Fouzi Lekjaa; the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Fernando Gomes; and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Pedro Rocha, at Saturday’s meeting in Rabat.
During the meeting, the presidents–Lekjaa, Gomes, and Rocha–not only confirmed their shared interest in hosting the 2030 World Cup, but also espoused their vision for the tournament with the world.
They emphasized the importance of an inclusive, innovative, and sustainable tournament that celebrates football’s heritage and strengthens the bonds between Europe, Africa, and the rest of the world.
This joint bid, organized across three continents, aims to highlight the diversity of football and promote collaboration between nations, leaving a lasting social legacy in Morocco, the Iberian Peninsula, and beyond.
The Head of FRMF underscored the historical significance of this shared bid, emphasizing the unity and common history of the three countries throughout the past millenium.
The President of FPF spoke of the ambition behind hosting the 2030 World Cup, describing it as a transformative event that could change the manner in which major sporting events are organized in the future.
RFEF’s chief stated that this bid represents a message of hope and unity, fostering inclusion, diversity, and respect. He highlighted the significant social legacy this World Cup will leave behind.
In regards to stadium selection for the WC finals, it has been determined that it is too early at this juncture to speculate, as research and various methods of technical assessments are still underway.
