Casablanca dropped to the 105th spot out of 156 cities in the 2023 Kearney Global Cities Report released on Thursday, losing four spots from last year.
The report looks at the changes affecting world’s major cities, and examines the shifting dynamics caused by issues such as remote labor, geopolitical shifts, and the emergence of AI.
Over the past six years, Casablanca city’s position has being fluctuating, starting at a 97th position in 2018 and improving to 94th in 2019. However, the year 2020 saw a drop to the 107 position, followed by other declines in 2022 and 2023.
In the 2023 Global Cities Outlook, the Moroccan economic hub was placed 129th, indicating poor future prospects due to variables such as changes in economic performance, infrastructure development, and other global and local issues.
The analysis examines not only the cities’ current performance in the Global Cities Index (GCI), but also their future potential in the Global Cities Outlook (GCO).
New York City retained its top spot in the rankings for the sixth year in a row, while London came in second. Paris and Tokyo were ranked third and fourth, respectively. These top four cities have maintained the same positions since 2018.
Dubai was ranked 23rd among MENA cities. Doha climbed seven spots to 50th, while Cairo and Riyadh came in 60th and 61st, respectively.
