Morocco was the only major sweet pepper exporter that boosted shipments to Germany last season–and it did so by 10-20% y-o-y in reaching a record volume of 18,2000 tons in June-July–valued at about $30 million, said Yevhen Kuzin, Fruit & Vegetable Market Analyst at EastFruit.
Sweet peppers are Morocco’s second most profitable export after tomatoes, and European nations are the largest importers of the commodity, as shipments of the product to these markets continue to increase year after year.
As a result, Moroccan manufacturers have increased their exports of this commodity by 46% in the last six years.
In 2022-23, about 170,000 tons of sweet peppers were imported into the markets of 48 countries, bringing Morocco more than 192 million dollars in export earnings.
The North African country ranks eighth on the list of global vegetable exporters, with Spain, France, and Germany topping the Moroccan sweet pepper customer list.
Germany is the top importer of sweet peppers in Europe, and has consistently rated second on the worldwide list since 2017, trailing only the United States.
