Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s attachment, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, to peace, stability, progress and prosperity of all peoples, and its readiness to cooperate with international partners to end the dire situation in Gaza, during the Peace Summit in Cairo, on Saturday.
In his speech, Bourita said that this summit carries five key messages to the international community. The first is a call for de-escalation, the prevention of bloodshed, the cessation of military aggressions, and the protection of the region against the conflict’s repercussions which may undermine any chances of stability and peace.
The second point concerns the critical importance of protecting and sparing the lives of civilians in accordance with international law and common humanitarian values.
Bourita also emphasized the pressing need of allowing timely and sufficient humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, as a third point.
The minister explicated that the fourth point touches on refusing any solutions proposing to displace Palestinians from their homeland, and jeopardizing the national security of neighboring nations; while the fifth is related to the need to launch a true peace process leading to a two-state solution: a Palestinian state based on the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting alongside the state of Israel.
The Peace Summit brought together 30 countries, the United Nations, and three regional organizations with the aim of de-escalating tensions in Gaza, protecting civilians, establishing safe corridors, and allowing humanitarian aid into Palestine.
