With over 70% of the world’s phosphate reserves, Morocco has positioned itself as the 5th largest fertilizer producer in the world as of last year, according to Statista platform. The Kingdom produced 40 million tons of fertilizer the previous year.
Morocco’s production reached 7.72 billion dollars in 2022. Its exports grew by 43% over the same period, with phosphates accounting for the bulk of this growth.
Nations whose value of fertilizer exports exceeded that of Morocco included Russia (top exporter with values at $20.65 billion), followed by Canada ($13.73 billion), China ($11.38 billion), and the United States ($8.47 billion).
OCP Group sales reached over 114.57 Bln MAD in 2022, up 36% from the previous year.
Conversely, the OCP’s overall sales and profits fell in the first half of 2023 due to lower sales prices in all product categories, relative to the exceptional price levels seen during the first half of 2022.
