The presidents of the three football federations, Fouzi Lekjaa of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fernando Gomes of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), and Pedro Rocha of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), convened on Wednesday to coordinate their efforts to ensure a memorable 2030 World Cup on every scale.
This second meeting took place in Lisbon at the FPF headquarters in Cidade do Futebol, marking an important next step in planning the massive event that is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of fans.
The leaders agreed to present their Letter of Intent (LOI) to the tournament organization on October 28. The LOI will be submitted in Rabat, Morocco, kicking off the application process and confirming their commitment to a successful World Cup.
A press conference featuring the presidents of the three federations is scheduled after the submission to provide further insight at that time.
The Candidacy Committee for the 2030 World Cup has also been diligently working on the tournament, with a meeting in Madrid to monitor where things are in terms of planning and ensure steady progress.
The collaboration between the three nations, close in proximity geographically and each with its own rich footballing traditions and cultures, exemplifies the universal appeal of the sport. FIFA’s choice of the countries underscores the belief that the 2030 World Cup will be a worldwide celebration of football.
“In a divided world, FIFA and football are uniting,” FIFA Head Gianni Infantino said in a press release on the day of the announcement of their winning bid.
“Two continents–Africa and Europe–united not only in a celebration of football but also in providing unique social and cultural cohesion. What a great message of peace, tolerance, and inclusion.”
