Franco-Algerian player Karim Benzema must be “stripped of his French nationality” and his golden ball withdrawn for tweeting “his prayers” of support for Palestine and for allegedly being a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, stated French Senator Valérie Boyer in a press release issued Wednesday.
The French national team star had posted a tweet on October 15 sending his prayers to the Gazawi people and to the victims of “these unjust bombings that spare neither women nor children.”
In her press release, relying on allegations previously made by Minister of Interior Gerald Darmanin, the Senator asserted without evidence that Benzema’s transfer to the Al-Ittihad Saudi Club in June involved the player having ties with the “Muslim Brotherhood.”
She also quoted French Anthropologist Florence Bergeaud-Blackler who described the Muslim Brotherhood as a political-religious movement that is trying to establish “Islam” worldwide, and undermine “democracy.”
“If the Minister’s allegations are true,” Boyer said, France must consider sanctions against Benzema, first stripping him of his Ballon d’Or (Golden Ball), and second stripping him of his French citizenship.
“We cannot accept that an internationally known, dual national can dishonor and betray our country,” she argued.
