On Tuesday evening, the Al Mada Foundation hosted a prestigious ceremony at the Villa des Arts in Casablanca to award its top accolades to Moroccan students enrolled in fine arts programs.
The competition, centered around the theme of Moroccan identity, aims to promote contemporary creation and support young artists/painters by providing them with a collective exhibition and various prizes.
A professional jury–in collaboration with the School of Fine Arts in Casablanca and the Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan–selected three laureates from 28 candidates, with Oualid Lazrak taking first place.
The second and third prizes were handed to Safia Kaakoua and Salma Ahaddad, respectively.
Mohamed Rachdi, an art critic and jury member, commented that the artworks exhibited were “very interesting and relevant in terms of Moroccan identity,” highlighting the young artists’ technical mastery.
A gallery owner and jury member, Nabil Bayahya, encouraged artists to challenge themselves and focus on the blend of aesthetics and ideas in their works.
Al Mada Foundation also announced the launch of the next edition of its awards program in February 2024, as well as an upcoming collective exhibition featuring the prize winners at the Villas des Arts in Casablanca and Rabat.
