Morocco defeated Liberia 3-0 in the highly anticipated encounter in Adrar Stadium in Agadir on Tuesday evening. The game, which had been postponed due to Morocco’s deadly September 8 earthquake, marked the end of the qualifying rounds for the 34th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), soon to be held in Cote d’Ivoire in January 2024.
Morocco’s key players performed brilliantly throughout the game. Amine Harrit opened the scoring during extra time in the first half (45+2) thanks to an assist from Achraf Hakimi, followed by Ayoub El Kaabi’s winning shot in the 59th minute on a penalty obtained by Yahya Attiat-Allah. Amine Adli provided the final touch, scoring Morocco’s third goal in the 89th minute.
Both Harrit and Adli are celebrating their first goals in Morocco’s national team jerseys.
Morocco’s national football team, the Atlas Lions, has been drawn in Group F for the 34th AFCON, along with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, and Zambia, as announced during the draw in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.
The AFCON will be held in six stadiums across five locations in Côte d’Ivoire, including newly built venues in Abidjan, Korhogo, and San Pedro.
The African Football Federation (CAF) selected Morocco as a host country for the 2025 African Cup of Nations, solidifying its position as a prominent force in African football.
