Moroccan airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) received IEnvA (IATA Environmental Assessment) and IWT (IATA Illegal Wildlife Trade) certifications from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), reported MAP on Monday.
This dual accreditation recognizes RAM’s ongoing commitment to the environment and the protection of nature.
Through IEnvA, a program that supports airlines’ environmental efforts, RAM’s voluntary adoption of the IEnvA standard verifies RAM’s compliance with its environmental commitments, its commitment to continual improvement, and the company’s environmental management practices.
All professions involved in RAM’s flight operations and aircraft maintenance have been certified at this point, and the company has also established a management system for reducing energy and water consumption, as well as sorting and recycling waste on its premises.
RAM has also established a timeline for IEnvA accreditation in other areas including catering and ground operations.
IWT is a program that aims to improve airline collaboration with airports, postal services, government organizations, and authorities in order to prevent the unlawful transportation of endangered wildlife by air. It is part of the broader Buckingham Palace Declaration, which brings together all supply chain participants in this struggle.
“RAM’s strong commitment to environmental responsibility and action is underscored by this dual IATA certification,” RAM CEO Hamid Addou said in a press conference. “Obtaining the IEnvA and IWT labels strengthens the company’s image and values in Morocco and internationally.”
IATA Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, Kamil Alawadh said that RAM’s achievement of the IenvA and IWT certifications demonstrates the company’s commitment and work to improve environmental management practices, combat poaching and the transport of endangered species, and for sustainability in general.
RAM is the only airline in Africa and the seventh in the world to be awarded both the IEnvA and IWT designations by IATA for its environmental initiatives.
