Equipment and materials originally designated for the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), hosted in Marrakech, will find a new purpose in the renovation of educational facilities impacted by the earthquake, according to the Moroccan News Agency (MAP).
Mohammed El Kharmoudi, the General Coordinator of the event, announced to the press that resources from the WB and IMF meetings will be reused to assist students affected by the earthquake, thus enabling them to resume their studies in damaged educational institutions, in line with King Mohammed VI’s instructions and calls for support.
Moroccan authorities’ swift and professional response to the September 8 earthquake was favorably commended by several economic actors attending the Annual Meetings in the dynamic city of Marrakech.
Around 14,000 participants and more than 189 member states of the IMF and the WB took part in the events. Attendees comprised leaders in the public sector (including central banks, ministries of finance and development, and MPs), various private sector stakeholders, and numerous civic organizations, inclusive of youth, media and academic research professionals.
The Annual Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) returned to Africa after a fifty-year absence.
