French Police Services detained an armed male suspect for assassinating a teacher and gravely wounding another teacher and a staff member at Gambetta High School in Arras City on Friday morning.
The murderer, named Mohamed Mogouchkov, of Chechen origin was born in Russia in 2003. He was registered for radicalization and was a former student of the school in which he committed the attack.
The motive for the attack remains unknown.
His sibling was also apprehended near another school, despite being unarmed.
French Education Minister Gabriel Attal subsequently called for “immediate” reinforcement of school security.
All students were ruled safe, and were being kept under lockdown in the school building until 1:20 P.M. A large police force was deployed in front of the school.
President Emmanuel Macron will be visiting Arras City in the early afternoon, along with Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
