Morocco’s national football team, the Atlas Lions, has been drawn in Group F of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), along with DR Congo, Tanzania, and Zambia, following the draw on Thursday in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.
The tournament will be held in six stadiums across five towns in Côte d’Ivoire, including newly constructed stadiums in Abidjan, Korhogo, and San Pedro.
The remaining groups include the 20 other African participants as follows:
Group A: Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Bissau
Group B: Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde Islands, Mozambique
Group C: Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, Gambia
Group D: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Angola
Group E: Tunisia, Mali, South Africa, Namibia
According to the official website of the African Football Confederation (CAF), the right-back for Paris Saint-Germain, Achraf Hakimi, who was a participant in Morocco’s semi-finalist team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and officiated at the draw, expressed the team’s determination, saying, “We have a good team, a good group, and we will do our best to win.”
The Atlas Lions made history by reaching the World Cup semi-finals, overcoming football giants such as Belgium, Spain, and Portugal along the way, added CAF statement.
The CAF selected Morocco to host the 2025 African Cup of Nations, cementing the country’s standing as an African football powerhouse.
