The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) formally submitted a letter of intent (LOI) to FIFA on Monday to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
This pivotal moment follows the kingdom’s initial announcement just a few days ago of its intent to bid for arguably the world’s largest sporting event, according to a press release by the SAFF.
The LOI, issued by SAFF President Yasser Al Misehal, reaffirms Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the FIFA-established bid process for hosting a major competitive event. It represents Saudi Arabia’s dedication to increasing the sport’s worldwide reach and to unlocking new footballing opportunities.
Saudi Arabia’s 2034 bid for the FIFA World Cup promises a unique and unforgettable experience, inspired by the nation’s transformation under Vision 2030 and its passion for football. The bid aims to open the kingdom to the world by inviting fans to witness its culture and history.
Expressing himself on this occasion, Al Misehal stated “This is the second step of a hugely exciting journey that the nation is embarking on. Last week we announced our ambitions to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, and this official submission continues our journey to make the dreams of our people a reality.”
He added, “The 2034 FIFA World Cup is our invitation to the world to witness Saudi Arabia’s development, experience its culture, and become part of its history. We are extremely committed to presenting the most competitive bid possible that will also help unite the world through football.”
KSA’s bid has received an overwhelming show of support in less than 72 hours since its initial announcement, according to the statement. Over 70 FIFA Member Associations from diverse continents have publicly voiced their endorsement of Saudi Arabia’s bid, further highlighting the global appeal and enthusiasm surrounding this endeavor.
The kingdom has successfully welcomed numerous global competitions, including football, motorsports, tennis, equestrian, golf, and e-sports, thus establishing itself as a premier destination for sports enthusiasts.
Along these lines, Morocco expressed its wholehearted backing for the fraternal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s desire to host the final stages of the 2034 FIFA World Cup, announced its Foreign Ministry in a press release last Thursday.
This backing arises from the profound and strong relationships that King Mohammed VI has with his brothers, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Chairman of the Council of Ministers.
Along the same lines, the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) had announced its unconditional support for the legitimacy of KSA’s bid to host the 2034 World Cup finals, said Fouzi Lekjaa, Chairman of the “2030 World Cup Committee” and President of the Moroccan Football Federation, according to a press release.
Lekjaa praised KSA’s organizational and sporting capabilities, along with its infrastructure, tourist facilities and the overall passion of the Saudi people for football.
Morocco will be hosting the World Cup 2030 along with Spain and Portugal.
